GEORGIA DOBIE GETS THE RIDE OF THE MONTH ON HMS PRESIDENT AT GOODWOOD
HMS President and Georgia Dobie came good in the competitive small field handicap at Goodwood on Friday evening and prevailed on the line. Georgia Dobie has excelled and is shortly to lose her claim, but HMS President settled very well for her in blinkers which he had worn before and she made a move 2 furlongs out, which probably won her the race. Half a furlong to run, the omens did not look very good, but HMS President picked up, did not hang left or right, which he has done in the past and quickened up all the way to the line to win by a neck.
HMS President has only won 3 races from 24 runs, but he has won an awful lot of prize money and there is a big one in him. He has proved he can stay a mile and six furlongs and over that distance think he would have been a comfortable winner and we would not rule out the possibility of trying him over 2 miles. The secret of the success at Goodwood was how well he settled in the blinkers and was not gassy and difficult to ride early on. The blinkers seemed to settle him and he was certainly very resolute. We needed that winner and it was great to break Eve Johnson Houghton‘s losing run.
